THE NEW WRITING COLLECTIVE
The New Writing Collective is the brainchild of Joe Fredericks of GRIT Productions and Jane Lesley of Mokita Productions who met after realising that they were coming from a near identical place in terms of their companies’ ethos and what they were trying to achieve. Both companies specialise in and are passionate about new writing of all types and are committed to developing talent in writing, directing, acting, producing, design and technical theatre.
As small new writing theatre companies working on their own they were both aware of being a very small fish in a large sea and it made sense to join forces to make their fishes collaboratively bigger. The NWC is an umbrella under which several new writing theatre companies are coming together in collaboration instead of competition; sharing contacts and publicity, mailing lists and potential audiences, scripts and venues and ideas and support and together becoming a larger force in the business whilst maintaining their own company identity and vision.
To date, GRIT Productions, Mokita Productions, Room For Pudding Theatre Company, Finger in the Pie, Real Circumstance and Apt Theatre Company are part of the NWC. If you are a new writing theatre company who shares our vision please do not hesitate to contact us.
Mokita Productions have produced two evenings of new writing at the White
Bear Theatre, London – The Forbidden Tree by Roger Mayhew
and Waiting on the Z Train by Sean Tyler. Their first full production
is Involution by Rachel Welch which is playing at the Pacific Playhouse
(formerly Southwark Playhouse) from February 21st to March 15th, 2008
The NWC is officially launching with Pages, an intriguing mix of some of the most exciting new writing talent discovered by the NWC. Showcasing the writing of four emerging writers and three theatrical composers, the evening combines drama, comedy and musical theatre in one eclectic show. Pages is playing at the Pacific Playhouse on March 2nd, 3rd, 9th and 10th, 2008.
